Week 1 Homework

Introduction:

1.Independently conceive of at least one (or more) game ideas, taking into account practical constraints.

2.Prepare your first game proposal. No fixed format is required. Communicate your ideas creatively and effectively. Some students will be required to present their ideas for 10 minutes during W2, followed by a Q&A session.

3.Document the ideation and proposal process in a personal academic blog and submit a link to the blog by 11:59 PM before W2. This assignment will count towards your ongoing assessment grade (it may not be the final project).

Because I really enjoy playing parkour games, I want to design a parkour game. Here’s my idea:

Story Background

The main character is an ordinary office worker struggling in a big city. After a series of setbacks at work, he loses his job and falls into confusion and frustration. Feeling defeated, he decides to leave the city and return to his parents’ home.

When he opens the door to his old room, he finds that his parents are not home — and everything is just as he left it years ago: notes on the desk, piles of books on the floor, sticky notes on the wall. His childhood teddy bear sits quietly by the bed.

Exhausted, he hugs the bear and cries, eventually falling asleep in tears.

In his dream, he becomes even smaller than the teddy bear. The bear comes to life and leads him on a magical adventure about “courage.” The adventure takes place inside the bedroom, but in the dream, the room has transformed into a fantastical world made up of books, sticky notes, pencils, and other objects.

Core Gameplay

Players control the tiny protagonist as they run and solve puzzles in this magical bedroom world. The goal is to keep moving forward, overcome obstacles, and collect “memory fragments of childhood dreams,” eventually rediscovering their dreams and motivation to move on.
